24,000 Indian-Americans register to attend PM Modi’s community event

New York/New Delhi, Sep 21 : More than 24,000 Indian-Americans have registered to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the Indian diaspora at a mega event in New York, titled ‘Modi and US: Progress Together’, on Sunday, September 22.
The event will be held at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, a venue with a seating capacity of 15,000, said a report by indiandiaspora.org.
Registrations for the event have flooded in from across the US through 590 community organisations, known as ‘Welcome Partners’.
The event marks PM Modi’s return to New York to address the Indian diaspora, ten years after his first speech at Madison Square Garden in 2014.
The ‘Modi and US’ event is designed to celebrate the diversity and success of the Indian-American community. Attendees will be from a wide array of religious and linguistic backgrounds, including Jewish, Zoroastrian, Christian, Sikh, Muslim and Hindu communities, besides speakers of Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, Tamil and more.
Besides PM Modi’s speech, the event will also feature cultural performances, and appearances by prominent Indian-American figures in business, science and the arts, showcasing the community’s contribution to both India and the US.
The organiser of the event, the Indo-American Community of USA (IACU), has stressed the importance of the event in reinforcing the close ties between the Indian government and the Indian diaspora in the US.
An IACU spokesperson said: “We are committed to making this event as inclusive as possible. The response has been overwhelming, especially from the tri-state area, and we are working to accommodate everyone who wants to be part of this historic moment.”
This will be PM Modi’s fifth address to the Indian diaspora in the US.
PM Modi’s address also comes just weeks ahead of the US Presidential election on November 5, in which Democratic nominee Kamala Harris will face off against Republican candidate Donald Trump.
