Puducherry, May 29 : As many as 55 volunteers of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) were arrested when they burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Friday.
The agitation was to protest the alleged transfer of 10,000 MBBS seats meant for the OBC/MBC in the last three years to higher caste candidates through the backdoor and also for stalling the Mandal Commission recommendations.
The volunteers held a demonstration at the Kamaraj statue junction and all of a sudden they took an effigy of Mr Modi and set on fire though police intervened.
Police put out the flames and arrested the volunteers.
