Prez election a fight for democratic vision of US: Obama

Insight Online News

Chicago, Aug 21 : Former US President Barack Obama, who was the keynote speaker on the second night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, said that the upcoming presidential election will represent a battle for the vision of America that Democrats uphold.
“Now it is up to all of us to fight for the America we believe in. And make no mistake: it will be a fight.” Obama said in his address to the convention participants on Tuesday.

Obama also criticised former US President Donald Trump, calling him a 78-year-old billionaire who has been “whining about his problems since he rode down his golden escalator nine years ago.”

“And as we gather here tonight, the people who will decide this election are asking a very simple question: Who will fight for me? Who’s thinking about my future; about my children’s future — about our future together?” Obama said.

Trump is clearly unconcerned about these issues, Obama added.
The US presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 5.

In July, incumbent US President Joe Biden said he was withdrawing from the 2024 election in the best interest of the Democratic Party and the nation. On Tuesday, delegates at the Democratic National Convention officially made Kamala Harris their nominee.
