Sensex drops 494.75 pts

Mumbai, Oct 17 : Extending losses for the third straight session on Thursday, the BSE Sensex tanked 494.75 pts to settle at 81,006.61 in a volatile trade on weak global cues.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) declined 221.45 pts at 24,749.85.
In early trade, the Sensex fell 174 pts at 81,646.60.

During the day it slumped 596 pts at 80,905.64, a day low, before closing at 81,006.61 down 494.75 pts from its last close.
The NSE registered days high and low at 25,029.50 and 24,728.90 pts respectively.

The stocks that slid were Realty by 3.76 pc followed by Auto by 3.48 pc, Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services by 2.45 pc.
The Mid-cap fell by 1.65 pc while the Small cap by 1.42 pc.

In 30 scrips, 9 advanced, while 21 declined.

The losers were Nestle India Ltd by 3.45 pc to Rs 2377.30, M& M by 3.34 pc to Rs 2963, Ultracemco by 2.45 pc to Rs 11047.45 and Bajaj Finserv by 2.40 pc to Rs 1813.

The gainers were Tech Mahindra by 2.95 pc to Rs 1709, Infosys by 2.77 pc to Rs 1973.05, Powergrid by 1.30 pc to Rs 331.35 and L& T by 1.02 pc to Rs 3567.

The Asian market was seen as weak as Hang Seng fell by 1.03 pc, Kospi by 0.04 pc, and Shanghai Composite by 1.06 pc.
