Afghan forces round up arms in N. Afghanistan

Pul-e-khumri, May 22 : Afghan security forces have rounded up arms and ammunitions including 21 pieces of AK-47 assault rifles from different parts of the northern Baghlan province, the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) said in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, GDI personnel launched operations in different districts of Baghlan province recently and discovered some pieces of weapons including 21 pieces of AK-47 assault rifles, four PK machine guns, two stocks of RPG rocket launcher, one 82 mm caliber gun and various types of ammunitions.

However, the statement did not say if anyone had been arrested.

The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone outside security departments.
