Gorakhpur, Nov 13 : Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday addressed a rally in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s home constituency, Gorakhpur, and said the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be crucial for both the Indian democracy and the Constitution.

Launching the third phase of the Samajwadi Vijay Yatra, the former chief minister made it clear the polls next year will be decisive in the nation’s fight to protect its democratic fibre.

Addressing a sea of red caps — supporters donning the party colours, the SP chief said the number attending his rally near the airport here in the very backyard of Adityanath’s abode, itself is a clear proof of the outcome to come.

He said that people have decided to show BJP the doors and will welcome SP in 2022.

“During the 5 year term of the BJP government every person have been insulted everyday. Now it is their turn to take revenge,” he said.

The BJP government is filling the coffers of the rich by making holes in poor men’s pockets, Akhilesh said. “Those who used to talk about reducing inflation , instead they have increased inflation. The youth have not got jobs. There was no development in Gorakhpur. The whole city was submerged during the recent monsoon,” he said.

He said that the people of Gorakhpur are waiting to see development. “I have come here to appeal to the people to give a befitting response to the BJP. The BJP should not worry about 2024, rather must answer people’s questions in 2022,” he said.

The SP chief said: “Remember the day when lockdown was imposed, our laborers had to walk from Maharashtra-Gujarat to UP. During the Covid period, people needed help in hospitals. At that time the Yogi government left people on their own and they died.”

The Samajwadi Vijay yatra will advance to Kushinagar in this phase.

Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav was accorded a rousing welcome by the party leaders and workers on his arrival from Lucknow by a chartered plane.

Along with the supporters, the SP leaders and the contenders in the assembly elections welcomed their national president. Due to heavy rush, the Vijay Yatra Rath slowly reached Rajhi roundabout from Air Force Station in about 25 minutes.

Akhilesh Yadav’s Saturday rally saw huge crowd presence. Later the Vijay Rath Yatra left for Madapar, followed by hundreds of four wheelers, bike riders in tow shouting slogans.
