Bengal News Update : BJP’s candidate Suvendu brother Soumendu attacked in Contai, TMC leader alleges BJP scaring away voters

Kolkata, Mar 27 : BJP’s Nandigram candidate Suvendu Adhikari’s brother Soumendu Adhikari was allegedly attacked by some miscreants in Contai ( Medinipur) where his driver was wounded and his car was vandalized and state minister TMC leader Sashi Panja alleged that BJP supporters were seen scaring away the voters with sticks and sharp weapons elsewhere.

Soumendu Adhikari accused the TMC of harbouring trouble at Contai, the home Adhikari family, and said he was attacked when tried to stop the TMC supporters, who were allegedly driving away the voters.

“We have told the EC that there should be free and fair polls. TMC is scared. We have given some names to Election Commission to take action,” added Soumendu.

Earlier in the day CPM candidate Sushanta Ghosh was attacked at Salboni where his car was vandalised by allegedly TMC supporters.

Police arrested four suspects in the case “Openly the BJP workers are using sticks and sharp weapons to scare away voters just 100 mts away from the polling stations,” Ms Panja alleged.

She asked where were the central forces to protect the voters, as she referred to some booths in Medinipur.

Two security personnel were injured in East Medinipur in an alleged firing and bombing in the morning as the ECI officials were told to look into the matter.

The two officials who were injured, identified as Patashpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Deepak Kumar Chakraborty and a Central Force personnel.
