New Delhi, Oct 26 : The Bharatiya Janata Party has condemned the brutal murder of a young woman in Odisha’s Kalahandi, saying that the nation should know about this heinous crime.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that in Odisha, a 24-year-old teacher named Mamita Meher was missing since October 8, later it was found that she was murdered.

He said that for a few days, people from all over the country and abroad have been campaigning with a hashtag named ‘Justice for Mamita Meher’ on social media to get justice for Meher.

The BJP spokesperson said, “Illegal activities were going on in the girls hostel of the school where she was working. Innocent girl students and other teachers were being exploited there.

He alleged that the name of Dibya Shankar Mishra, a minister in the Odisha government, also figured in this episode. It is being reported in the media that the minister from time to time exploited women in school.

Patra said, “The local police had refused to register an FIR in the matter. Somewhere the police knew that there was a question of the minister’s credibility in this, so the police were hesitant to register the FIR. Police registered the FIR after pressure from opposition parties.”

He said that BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda has taken cognizance of the matter and is sending a three-member team to Odisha. The team will take cognizance of this whole episode and will file a report as soon as possible.
