A woman originally hailing from a Bihar village has become a Senator in USA.

Mona Das of Democratic Party has been elected to Washington State Senate  and will be sworn in on January 14 at Olympia. She was born in a village Daryapur in


Munger’s Haveli Kharagpur. His grandfather Girishwar Narain Das was civil surgeon of Munger and father Subodh Das who lives in USA is an engineer and had visited his village two years ago, said his mother Chameli Devi.


Mona’s uncle Ajay Das said that Mona was born in 1971 at Darbhanga Medical College Hospital while her brother Som Das was born in America. Mona had last visited her village when she was 14 years old.


Mona who did graduation from Cincinnati University in psychology had interest in politics from very beginning even though her journey was not smooth. She said, “Sitting on the sidelines is no longer an option. It’s time we come together to chart a course for our future that is powerful and inclusive.”


Mona, a business woman, defeated Republican Joe Fain who had been elected 8 times. “I have the proud honour of being Senator-elect of the wonderful 47th district of WA State. I can’t even begin to thank the thousands of people who stepped up to help on this journey,” she posted on Facebook. Mona received 27,303 votes against Fain’s tally of 26,755 votes.
