BSF bike-borne ‘daredevils’ to hold rally from Shillong to Delhi

Shillong, Aug 29 : A 30-member Border Security Force (BSF) bike-borne ‘daredevils’, including 15 members of the BSF’s women motorcycle team ‘Seema Bhawan will embark on 2797 Km motorcycle rally from Shillong to Delhi on September 1 to mark the anniversary of 75th Independence Day.

The rally organised by BSF Meghalaya Frontier headquarters will be flag-off by Meghalaya Director General of Police, Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi from Lal ground, 193 Bn BSF, Mawpat on September 1.

On Monday, Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier, Inderjit Singh Rana unveiled the wing’s move wherein 30 motorcyclists – 15 from the Jaanbaaz motorcycle team and 15 motorcyclists from Seema Bhawani – will kickstart the rally from Shillong to Delhi.

The BSF daredevils will traverse through Guwahati and Dhubri in Assam, Siliguri, Balurghat, Berhampore, Kolkata in Kolkata, Dhanbad in Jharkhand, Aurangabad Prayagraj, Kanpur and Agra in Uttar Pradesh and finally culminating at Delhi on September 16.

Rana said the objective of the rally, which will be conducted under the supervision of HQ Special Director General (EC) BSF, Kolkata in coordination with various state administrations/police, is to raise awareness on National Integration despite differences in culture, customs, traditions and religion.

He said the BSF’s ‘daredevils’ will also interact with school children, National Cadet Corps volunteers & youths in several cities en route.

“We will showcase various events like; awareness on the harmful effects of drugs, and smuggling and showcasing of short films on BSF to highlight the role and task of the Force, India’s first line of defence and the largest border guarding force in the world is conducting the motorcycle rally in order to encourage country’s youths to join the BSF, for safeguarding our national territory,” the Inspector General of BSF said.

Jaanbaaz motorcycle team leader, Inspector Vishwajeet Bhatia, expressed hope that the bike rally will inspire the youths as the country is celebrating 75 years of Independence.

Apart from the bike rally, the BSF a Meghalaya frontier is also conducting various events Band displays at various BSF locations/establishments, and friendly volleyball & football match with Border Guards of Bangladesh to mark the Anniversary of 75th Independence Day.
