Srinagar, Aug 9 : Advising mourners to observe COVID-19 protocol during Muharram tazia procession, Apni Party (AP) president Syed Altaf Bukhari on Monday urged the government to ensure all necessary civic amenities across Jammu and Kashmir especially in Shia dominated areas for smooth observance of the holy month.
The administration must take all measures to provide uninterrupted electricity, drinking water besides sanitation facilities to the people, former minister Bukhari said.
‘Both the divisional administrations must take a holistic review of the preparations over the requisite arrangements in the Shia dominated localities for the smooth observance of this holy month and ensure the mourners are not subjected to any kind of inconvenience,” he said.
Bukhari said the government must ensure fumigation of all Imambaras and provide free of cost face masks and hand sanitizers to the devotees in view of the prevailing situation that emerged due to Covid-19 pandemic.
“The strict implementation of social and health protocols under Covid-19 SOP’s through the religious heads at Imambaras remains imperative, so as to stop the vicious spread of this contagion. All the departments must work in tandem in order to avoid any inconvenience to the mourners,” he added.
The Union Territory(UT) administration lifted ban on Muharram processions in Srinagar after three decades. However, several Shia organizations and leaders questioned the timing of lifting of ban on procession when there was still threat of COVID pandemic.
