Comedy actor Vivek suffers heart attack, hospitalised

Chennai, Apr 16 : Popular Tamil film comedian Vivek was today admitted a private hospital after he suffered a heart attack.

The actor, who took the first dose of COVID vaccine jab yesterday, complained of chest pain and breathing problem and was rushed to SIMS hospital in the city.

He was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was later put on ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).

A team of doctors are attending on him, hospital sources said.

They said doctors are also planning an angiogram to remove blocks in the heart.

The veteran actor, who has played comedian roles in hundreds of films.

Introduced to the film world by veteran director K Balachander, Vivek has shared screen with legends including Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, Sarathkumar, Dhanush among others.

His comedy always speaks about issues that affect people in society and hence has earned the sobriquet ‘Chinna Kalaivanar’. Besides a prolific actor, he is a keen admirer of late President APJ Abdul Kalam.

He had campaigned for mass planting of tree saplings and saving the environment.
