New Delhi, Aug 4 : The Congress on Thursday once again accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of ‘misusing’ the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after the probe agency summoned Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and party leader Mallikarjun Kharge to appear before it amid the ongoing Monsoon Session.

Kharge was summoned when the Parliament was in session, claimed the party.

Calling it a disrespect to the ‘Constitution’, the party said Kharge was summoned when he was supposed to raise matters of utmost importance concerning the public.

Addressing a Congress press conference at Vijay Chowk, senior Congress leader and MP Digvijaya Singh said, “Never in the history of ‘democracy’ it happened before, that a Leader of Opposition is being summoned by the ED or probe agency to give statement when the session is going on.”

“The probe agency should have called him before 1100 hours or after 1700 hours . Why is Modi ji so scared?” he added.

Pramod Tiwari said, “ED summoned him (Kharge) to appear at 1230 hours. From 1100 to 1700 hours, the House runs. If it was necessary, then ED could have called him on Saturday and Sunday. This is a disrespect to the Constitution.”

MP Rajeev Shukla said, “It is highly condemnable that the Leader of Opposition was summoned by the ED while the House was going.”

“During the House, you cannot summon a member. He never said no. Why he was called when the House was going on?” he asked.

MP Ranjeet Ranjan attacked the ruling dispensation and said, “This Never happened before. This shows you want to silence the Opposition. A conspiracy is being hatched to divert the public from the main issues.”
