New Delhi, Sep 17 : India on Thursday registered an unprecedented spike of over 97 k fresh nCoV cases crossing the 51 lakh-mark, while the active case load has now crossed 10 lakh mark, the Health Ministry update said here.
The tally now stands at 51,18,254 with a whopping 97,894 new additions in the past 24 hours. The country now houses 10,09,976 active cases.
On the recovery front, there were 82,719 cured and discharged cases taking the total to above 40 lakhs, with the figure standing at 40,25,079.
Fatality count also rose to 83,198 with 1,132 more people succumbing to the virus since Wednesday, the government data added.
In terms of percentage, the active cases are 19.73 pc, while recovered at 78.64 per cent, and the toll stands at 1.63 per cent.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 11,36,613 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, taking the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Wednesday to 6,05,65,728.
Maharashtra continues to remain the worst affected state accounting for 2,97,506 active cases, while its
death toll has mounted past 30k to stand at at 30,883.
Andhra Pradesh at the second spot now has 90,279 active cases, while 5105 lives have been claimed by the virus in the southern state.
Globally, United States continues to remain the most-infected, followed by India and Brazil.
