Court cancels Franco Mukkal’s bail in Nun rape case, Arrest warrant issued
Kottayam, Jul 14 : Additional District and Sessions Court here on Monday cancelled the bail granted to Bishop Franco Mulakkal in connection with the nun rape case and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the accused.
Judge G Gopakumar issued the arrest warrant against the accused who continuously failed to appear before the court since November last.
The court adjourned the case to August 13.
Franco, former bishop of the catholic diocese of Jalandhar, did not turned up during the last 10 sittings when the Court heard the case.
When the case was taken up on June 10 by the Court, the accused had said he cannot appear as the Bishop House where he was residing was placed in a containment zone. However, this has been proven wrong.
This time Franco stated that his advocate had tested positive for COVID-19 and that he cannot be present before the court as he was listed in the primary contact of his advocate.
However, the court did not accepted it.
The court issued an non-bailable arrest warrant and demanded that Franco be presented before the court immediately.
