Patna, June 21 : The special court hearing cases of MPs and MLAs on Tuesday turned down the petition of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for exonerating him in a defamation case.

The additional chief judicial magistrate Aadi Dev of the special Court rejected the plea filed by Lalu Prasad Yadav. After hearing both the parties, the court while rejecting the petition directed the prosecution to produce its witnesses and fixed June 23 for hearing the case.

The defamation case was lodged by an academician Udaykant Mishra in 2017. The petitioner stated that Yadav’s statement, alleging that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was aware of the Srijan scam and should explain why he used to stay at Mishra’s residence in Bhagalpur was defamatory.

The scam relates to the alleged transfer of crores of government funds to the account of the non-governmental organisation Srijan Mahila Sahyog Samiti between 2004 and 2014.
