Ghazipur (UP), Apr 15 : The verdict in Gangster Act case against MP Afzal Ansari and his brother mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari by an MP-MLA court was deferred on Saturday as the judge concerned was on leave, prosecution sources said here.
Prosecution sources said that the court will not pronounce its verdict on April 29. It may be noted that the hearing in the case concluded on April 1 after which the court fixed April 15 as the next date of hearing.
Meanwhile, heavy police were deployed in the district court inside the collectorate premises. The premises were sealed from all sides and except lawyers and litigants no one was allowed to enter.
MP Afzal Ansari appeared before the court on time. It may be mentioned that on November 22, 2007, the Muhammadabad police had registered a case against MPs Afzal and Mukhtar Ansari in the gang chart under the Gangster Act involving various cases.
The court had fixed the verdict on April 15 after hearing arguments and evidence from both sides, but due to non-availability of the judge of the concerned court, the pronouncement of the verdict has been postponed to April 29.
