Chandigarh, Mar 12 : Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal has tested positive for coronavirus. The minister took to social media to share the information.
“I would like to inform everyone that I have tested positive for COVID-19. I will be quarantining for next several days and hope for a speedy recovery,” Mr Badal tweeted on Friday.
He also requested people to get tested for COVID who have been in contact with him in recent days.
“My humble appeal to all who have come in direct contact with me in last few days is to please get yourself tested & follow all necessary precautions. It is our responsibility to keep ourselves & others safe, thus preventing any further spread of the virus,” he said in another tweet.
On March 8, he had presented the state budget in the Assembly.
In his Facebook post, he said: “Before the session, I tested negative. After the session, I have tested positive.”
Meanwhile, the state reported 1,309 new Covid-19 cases and 18 more fatalities on Thursday, raising the state’s caseload to 1,93,345 and the death toll to 5,996.
The number of active cases of fatal virus in Punjab increased to 10,069, according to a medical bulletin.
