CSI Bishop appears before ED

Kochi, July 27 : Church of South India (CSI) Bishop Dharmaraj Rasalam on Wednesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) here in connection with cases related to alleged money-laundering by church-run institutions.

The Bishop, who was scheduled to leave for UK to attend a church event, was detained at the airport in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

The Bishop appeared before the ED for questioning here at 11 am.

On Monday, the ED conducted multiple raids related to black money in connection with taking capitation fees for admission to the Karakonam CSI Medical College.

The capitation fees collected from students were deposited in a separate account without any receipts or bills.

The ED had conducted simultaneous raids at the residence of Church secretary T T Praveen and Medical College Director Dr Bennet Abraham.

Dr Bennet Abraham was the CPI candidate in the 2014 Lok Sabha poll in Thiruvananthapuram.
