Defence Secy praises BRO

New Delhi, Dec 27 : Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar inaugurated the Annual Chief Engineers and Equipment Management Conference of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) here today.

The BRO will carry out review of the current projects and prepare strategies for the upcoming 2022 during the three day conference.

Dr Ajay Kumar lauded the BRO for constructing 102 new roads and bridges connecting remote border areas to the mainland in a single working season, despite challenges posed by inhospitable terrain, inclement weather and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The conference provides an opportunity for the core group of BRO to discuss key issues focusing on improvement of road infrastructure along the border areas including the use of new technology in road construction, incorporation of environment friendly means of construction and road safety aspects etc.

Dr Ajay Kumar also praised the BRO for the construction of Umling La Pass, Atal Tunnel & Zojila Pass recently.

The BRO has built the world’s highest motorable road at Umling La Pass in Eastern Ladakh with a height of 19,300 feet, breaking Bolivia’s record of a road near volcano Uturuncu at 18,953 ft.

The defence secretary lauded officers for conducting the breakthrough blast of the Sela Tunnel and speeding up the construction of Nechiphu Tunnel, both part of Balipara-Charduar-Tawang road in Arunachal Pradesh.

The BRO has been lauded in recent times for its role in creating infrastructure in remote areas and increasing connectivity in border areas amid tough weather conditions especially during the COVID 19 pandemic.

DG Border Roads Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, Additional DG and 18 Chief Engineers (Projects) were present on the occasion to participate in the three-day conference.
