New Delhi, Apr 26 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and took stock of the situation arising out of forest fires in parts of the state.
Taking to twitter, Mr Modi said, “Spoke to Mizoram CM, Mr. Zoramthanga and took stock of the situation arising due to forest fires in parts of the state. Assured all possible support from the Centre in overcoming this crisis. We all pray for the safety and wellbeing of the people of Mizoram.”
A forest fire has been raging for nearly 40 hours in the hills of south Mizoram and has affected towns and villages of two neighbouring districts, Lunglei and Lawngtlai. No casualty has been reported so far.
The State Government had requested the Indian Air Force for assistance in dousing, IAF has deployed two Mi-17V5 helicopters on Sunday for this purpose.
The firefighters of the Mizoram government and Assam Rifles, Border Security Force personnel and local volunteer groups have also been engaged in the process.
