New Delhi, Sep 20 : Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Sunday took oath as member of the Rajya Sabha.
As soon as the proceedings of the House commenced, Mr Deve Gowda was administered oath by Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.
He took oath in Kannada.
Welcoming him, Mr Naidu said, ‘Mr Deve Gowda is a good addition to the House. One of the senior most politicians in the country has come to our House.’
Mr Gowda, 87, was in June elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. This is the first time that the JD(S) leader has become a member of the Upper House since 1996.
