Paris, Jan 2 : Amid Covid restrictions in France, only 874 vehicles were set ablaze on New Year’s Eve as part of decades-old tradition.

In 2019, 1,316 cars were set on fire, CNN quoted Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin as saying on Saturday.

The car-torching in France has been a way to mark the arrival of the New Year.

The practice gained popularity among youth, expecially in poor neighbourhoods, in the 1990s around Strasbourg region.
