Goa Rural Development Minister Michael Lobo resigns

Panaji, Jan 10 : Ahead of the assembly elections scheduled next month, Goa Rural Development Minister Michael Lobo resigned from his post on Monday.

Mr Lobo also tendered his resignation as an MLA and submitted the resignation letter to Assembly Secretary Namrata Ulman.

He represented Calangute constituency in the state assembly.

Besides Rural Development, Lobo also held portfolios like waste management, ports and science and technology.

Before being inducted as a minister in the Pramod Sawant led cabinet, Lobo was Deputy Speaker of the state assembly.

He has also been Chairman of North Goa Planning and Development Authority.

With Lobo’s resignation, strength of the 40 member state assembly came down to 32.

According to sources, he is likely to join the Congress.

Assembly elections in Goa are to be held on February 14, 2022.
