GS Bali : Senior Cong leader & former Minister GS Bali passed away

Shimla, Oct 30 : Senior Congress party leader of Himachal Pradesh and former minister GS Bali passed away at AIIMS Delhi on Saturday after prolonged illnesses, family members informed.

He was 67 years old. Born into the family of MS Bali on 27-07-1954 at Kangra, Bali did his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

He leaves behind one son and two daughters. Before entering active politics he was a successful industrialist and agriculturist.

During his political career he held the portfolio of Vice-Chairman and subsequently Chairman, State Social Bodies Federation; Convener, Indian National Congress, Vichar Manch, (1990-97) President, Congress Seva Dal, (1995-98); Joint Secretary, Pradesh Congress Committee, (1993-98); and Founder President, Himachal Nagrik Sudhar Sabha.

He was elected to the Pradesh Vidhan Sabha in (1998) and was re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2012. He was Transport Minister, 2003 to 2007 and 2012 to 2017.

He undertook ‘Berojgar Yatra’ during 2012 throughout Himachal Pradesh for the cause of un-employed youths of the Pradesh as a result of which un-employment allowance was granted by the state government.

Bali was elected to the State Legislative Assembly in 2012 and was inducted into the Council of Minister as Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, with additional the charge of Transport, Technical Education, Vocational & Industrial Training Minister as well.

Bali was was the Congress chief ministerial candidate from Kangra district.
