Haryana High Court rejects Majithia’s bail plea in drug case

Chandigarh, Jan 24 : The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday dismissed an anticipatory bail plea moved by former Punjab Minister and senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a narcotics case. After hearing final arguments, Justice Lisa Gill rejected the bail plea.

It will be a setback for Majithia as from Tuesday the process of filing nomination papers will commence. The court had earlier granted interim anticipatory bail to the Akali leader and directed him to fully cooperate in the investigation.

The court had also asked Majithia to keep his mobile phone constantly on and share his live location through WhatsApp with the investigating agency. He was directed not leave the country till the next date of hearing and provide his mobile number to the probe agency.

On the last of hearing, the counsel of Punjab government stated Majithia has not extended full cooperation during the investigation. A case under the provisions of the NDPS Act was registered against the Akali leader in Mohali on December 20, last year.
