New Delhi, May 26 : India on Wednesday said that it has taken note of political developments in Nepal and views them as the country’s internal matters.
“We have taken note of the recent political developments in Nepal,” Ministry of External Affairs said.
“We view them as internal matters of Nepal to be dealt [with] by them under their own domestic framework and democratic processes,” MEA said in a statement, responding to media queries on the developments in the neighbuoring country.
The Indian government’s statement comes five days after President Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the House of Representative and called snap election on November 12 and 19 on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
“As a neighbour and friend, India remains unwavering in its support for Nepal and its people on their journey toward progress, peace, stability and development,” said the MEA statement.
Nepal’s domestic media said India is the first country to react to the political developments in the Himalayan republic.
Prime minister Oli’s recommendation to dissolve the House after a power tussle within his party has happened for the second time in the last five months, and two days after the opposition alliance filed a joint petition with 146 members demanding the restoration of the House.
