Agartala, Oct 23 : Tripura State Jamiat Ulama Hind (TSJU-H), the apex body of Islam believers alleged that Muslims here have been targeted by a section of Hindus as retaliation to the attacks on temples, Durgapuja pandals and Hindu residents in Bangladesh recently.
Taking the plea of attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh, Muslims have been attacked in several places of Tripura over the past few days and five mosques were vandalised by miscreants at different places, TSJU-H delegation told the Chief Minister Saturday evening, submitting a memorandum.
They sought the intervention of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb over alleged communal unrest prevailing in the state following the attack on Hindus in Bangladesh and added, “We are appealing to stop the unrest, vandalism, and attacks on religious institutions of religious minorities in Tripura at present.”
The memorandum underlined that some temples and houses of Hindus have been vandalized by keeping the Holy Quran in the puja pandals in Bangladesh. The TSJU-H has also lodged a protest with the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala condemning the attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh and also demanded the government of that country to ensure exemplary punishment to the culprits, memorandum stated.
It further alleged that some unruly communal mobs in the state of Tripura are engaged in attacks on mosques, minority homes and other unpleasant activities to destroy the harmony of Hindus and Muslims, to disturb the peace and to discredit the government, which made Muslims of the villages to come out from their homes.
They demanded CM to play a strong role in stopping all conspiracies, conspiratorial and unpleasant activities of the perpetrators and bring the accused to justice in the course of investigation, to take action against those who are posting provocative extremist communal messages on social media to destroy the atmosphere of communal harmony and others.
