Jayakwadi dam water level touches 87 percent

Aurangabad, July 23 : The water level in the Jayakwadi dam at Paithan had touched 87 percent at 0600 hours on Saturday with the inflow of 21078 cuses of water per second from the upstream dams from Nashik and Ahmednagar district.

It may noted that on the same day of last year the dam had 35.69 percent live stock.

According to the Command Area Development Authority, the water level in the dam at 0600 hours was 86.99 percent with an inflow of 21,078 cuses of water which is 1519.55 feet out of 1521 feet capacity. The dams total capacity is 2626.502 MCUM including 1888.396 MCUM live stock .

As a precautionary measure the authorities has started releasing 1589 cuses of water per second through Hydel project in the river basin and 500 cuses per second through the right canal for Majalgaon dam in Beed district, they said.

The dam is the primary source of water for irrigation, drinking and industrial use in eight districts of the Marathwada region, including major industries in Aurangabad and Jalna, as well as for nearly 2.5 lakh hectares of farmland.
