Jayakwadi water released after heavy rain

Aurangabad, Aug 17 : Eighteen sluice gates of the Jayakwadi dam were opened Wednesday following heavy rain in river Godavari’s catchment areas in Maharashtra’s Nashik district.

District authorities released 47,660 cusec water per second as 18 of the 27 sluice gates of the dam situated in Paithan were opened at 6 am, according to Command Area Development Authority.

The Jayakwadi Dam supplies 102 TMC water to Aurangabad, Jalna, three industrial estates, around 250 villages and about 1.85 lakh hector irrigation lands in four districts of Marathwada region.

The District administration had already issued alerts in all the villages around the river bay and warned them not to venture near the water.
