RANCHI, March : BJP legislature party leader Babulal Marandi on Tuesday appealed voters to ensure victory of his party candidate in the upcoming Madhupur by-election in order to compel incumbent state tourism minister Hafizul Hassan to resign following his defeat, as was done by former chief minister (CM) Shibu Soren after his loss in Tamar assembly by-election in 2009.
Bypoll for Madhupur assembly seat, vacated after demise of JMM veteran and serving welfare minister Haji Hussain Ansari in October last year, was schedule to be held on April 17 and the result will be announced on May 2. Speaking at a public meeting after nomination of BJP candidate Ganga Narayan Singh, Marandi said,“But he (Hafizul) does not remember that Shibu Soren lost in Tamar despite being the CM. I appeal people to make JMM candidate meet the same fate in Tamar so that he is forced to resign as minister on May 2. After that , the CM’s turn will come.”
Ganga Narayan Singh joined the BJP last week and the party’s central election committee picked him over former minister and two-term legislator from Madhupur, Raj Paliwar, to take on JMM candidate and serving tourism minister Hafizul Hassan.
“Hassan is on the backfoot and is forced to make people recall that he is a minister,” the BJP leader added.
Besides Marandi, Singh’s nomination rally was attended by several party leaders, including state BJP chief Deepak Prakash, party’s national vice-president Annapurna Devi and Godda MP Nishikant Dubey, and other elected representatives and office bearers of the state unit.upcoming
The window for filing nomination for the upcoming election came to an end on Tuesday. A total of eight persons filed their papers for the by-election.
