New Delhi, Aug 14 : Maximum number of police gallantry medals announced on the eve of Independence Day have been won by the Jammu and Kashmir police, the Home Ministry said on Saturday as it announced gallantry medals for police, CAPFs and other awards.
A statement from the Home Ministry said 1,380 Police personnel have been awarded Medals on the occasion of Independence Day, 2021. Of these, 628 are Police Medal for Gallantry, two President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG), 88 President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM), and 662 Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).
Among the 628 Police gallantry medals, 398 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir region, 155 personnel for their gallant action in Left Wing Extremism affected areas and 27 personnel for their gallant action in North-East Region.
“Among the personnel receiving Gallantry Awards, 256 are from J&K Police, 151 are from CRPF, 23 are from ITBP and 67 are from Odisha Police, 25 are from Maharashtra and 20 are from Chhattisgarh and the remaining from the other States/UTs and CAPFs,” Home Ministry said.
Twenty ITBP personnel who fought in the Galwan valley clash are among those who got police gallantry medals.
Among other awards, Fire Service Medals.were given to 86 personnel. Out of these, the Fire Service Medal for Gallantry was awarded to 26 personnel for their respective acts of valour and gallantry.
President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to 10 personnel and the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service was awarded to 50 personnel for their respective distinguished and meritorious records of services.
In addition, 55 personnel were awarded Home Guard and Civil Defence Medals on the occasion of the Independence Day, 2021. Of these, President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service and Home Guards was awarded to five personnel and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service was awarded to 50 personnel.
