Belagavi, Dec 15 : Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has issued orders to state police to take action against Maulana Nooruddin Farooqui of Social Democratic Party of India for his comments in which he threatened to gouge the eyes of RSS members.
Speaking to a section of mediapersons here, Jnanendra said he has directed the Mysuru police to take a suo motu cognisance of the Maulana’s comments and initiate action against him.
He said there is no scope for anyone to take law into their hands, and if they have any problem with anybody, they can approach the police and lodge a complaint, but instead of doing this if they say they will gouge out eyes and do sundry other things, this will not be tolerated in this state.
“Therefore, we condemn this kind of mindset. I have directed the police to take suo motu cognisance of the hate speech and take necessary action. If anyone belonging to any religion indulges in such acts, we will not leave them,” Jnanendra said.
The minister was commenting on a video which has gone viral on social media where Farooqui is seen threatening to gouge out the eyes of Bajrang Dal and RSS activists and also making inflammatory comments against Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
He made these incendiary remarks in retaliation to pro-Hindu groups claiming the Jamia Masjid at Srirangapatna was built over a Hanuman temple. He alleged they were trying to instigate residents of the area.
“I want to tell all the Bajrangis and RSS goondas in Karnataka that if they fix their dirty eyes on Srirangapatna’s Masjid, Insha Allah, every soldier of Tipu Sultan (A tyrant who persecuted Hindus and Christians and razed their temples and churches during his rule in the 18th century in Mysuru) is standing ready to gouge out your eyes. We have not worn bangles in our hands. We know how to defend Babasaheb’s (Ambedkar) constitution and Ganga-Jamuni culture of the country,” Farooqui said.
“Before taking any action against SDPI, the police should arrest Bajrang Dal and RSS goondas and put them in jail. Until and unless you don’t punish them, there will not be peace in the state. Build a grand temple there (Ayodhya), the chant of Allahu Akbar will echo there,” he said.
According to reports, some Hindu groups have decided to recite Hanuman Chalisa at the Masjid as they claimed that it was built on Hanuman temple.
SDPI had organized a march against the event planned by the Hindu groups.
