Kashmir, Ladakh brace for rains, snow

Srinagar, Jan 18 : Light rains and snowfall occurred in the plains and the upper reaches of Kashmir and Ladakh as the Meteorological Department on Tuesday forecast further wet weather.

The MeT office said a Western Disturbance caused the weather to be cloudy in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh and it was likely to trigger light rains and snow in the plains and light to moderate snow in the higher reaches.

“Another spell of light to moderate snow in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to hit during January 21 and 22. There is no forecast of any major rain or snow till the end of January in both Union Territories”

Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir, recorded a low of 1.1 degree Celsius. Gulmarg in north Kashmir was cold at minus 6.0 degree Celsius.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.7 degree Celsius. It received 3.4 mm rain and 1.9 cm of snow till Tuesday morning.

The temperature in Kupwara was at 0.2 degrees Celsius. Leh in Ladakh shivered at minus 11.0 degrees Celsius, Kargil at 12.3 degree Celsius and Drass at minus 16.2 degrees.
