Kolkata News Update : SMP Lights up Iconic Howrah Bridge in Blue for a Humanitarian Cause

Kolkata, Apr 03 : On the World Autism day on Friday Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), erstwhile Kolkata Port Trust lighted up the Rabindra Setu (Howrah Bridge) in blue to create awareness on the neurological ailment Autism to mark the World Autism Day.

This year SMP, Kolkata, India’s first major port, is committed to participating in this global effort to create greater awareness for autistic persons.

“Light it up Blue” is a campaign spearheaded by ‘Autism Speaks’, an organisation that aims to foster understanding and acceptance for autistic persons. Supporters are encouraged to wear blue and post to the hashtag #light It Up Blue to raise awareness. Landmarks across the world have turned blue in solidarity this year, 2021. Kolkata too will participate in this worldwide campaign of light it up blue.

Vinit Kumar, Chairman, SMP, Kolkata said, this port is always extremely sympathetic to the causes which nurture a better tomorrow or help those who are less fortunate.

To show its solidarity and for creating greater awareness for those afflicted with autism SM Port in collaboration with Autism Society West Bengal (ASWB) lit up Kolkata’s most enduring icon the Howrah Bridge (Rabindra Setu) in blue. SMP, Kolkata is the custodian of the Howrah Bridge.

ASWB is a parent initiated organisation working in the field of autism spectrum since 2002. The organisation focuses on the inclusion of individuals with autism across their life span through creating awareness using evidence based strategies in training and education methods.
