Puducherry, Dec 24 : Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi left for Karaikal on Thursday to examine and consider the adequacy of arrangements for the Sani Peyarchi festival at Thirunallar temple in Karaikal region of the Union Territory in the wake of serious public health situation.
She will attend a meeting along with the Secretary Hindu Religious Charitable Endowments, Karaikal District Collector and Executive Officer of the Dharbaranyeswara Swamy Devasthanam, Dr Bedi said in a whatsapp post.
The Madras High Court directed that a decision whether or not to open the festival to the public would have to be taken very prudently and cautiously bearing mind the seriousness of the public health situation we face today.
The decision as to whether the festival should at all be conducted and if yes, the scale of the festival and specifies of the arrangements most down to the minute details should be worked out by the special team comprising of four parties.
It is only if all the four said parties are in concurrence with the adequacy of the measures decided upon that the festival should be conducted, the Lt Governor added.
