Hyderabad, May 11 : The state Cabinet on Tuesday decided to impose complete lockdown for 10-days from 10 am on May 12 to 6 am on May 22, amid surge in Covid-19 cases.
The Cabinet, which under the chairmanship of state Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and discussed over 3-hours on curtailment of the Virus spread at Pragathi Bhavan, CMs camp office here, also decided to give relaxation period from 6 am to 10 am for the people for their general activities and needs.
Only for these four hours all the shops will be open and they would close for the rest of 20 hours, as the lockdown would be imposed strictly.
The State Cabinet will meet again on May 20 and would review the situation on the continuing of the lockdown and take a decision accordingly.
There was already a curfew in place in the state from April 20, which was to end at 5 am on May 15.
The second wave of Covid-19 is creating havoc as the corona curfew imposed in the state has not yielded the expected result in reducing the infection and death rate.
The Telangana high court had recently asked the state government to explore stronger measures like extending hours of night curfew or a weekend lockdown to flatten the curve of the virus spread.
On Tuesday, Telangana reported 4,801 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 5,06,988 while the toll rose to 2,803 with 32 more deaths.
Last week, the CM had ruled out imposition of lockdown in the state saying that it would have affected the livelihoods of several people apart from impacting the state revenues.
He said that in other states despite clamping lockdown there was no improvement in the situation and positive cases have not come down.
But with the pressures from various quarters the government decided to impose complete lockdown.
