Lok Sabha commences, Obituary references paid to Pranab, Vasanthakumar, Pt Jasraj

New Delhi, Sep 14 : The delayed Monsoon session of Parliament got underway with the Lok Sabha being convened on Monday with obituary references.

The House of the People condoled the passing way former President Pranab Mukherjee, sitting member H Vasanthakumar and eminent vocalist Pandit Jasraj among others.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present in the House and all members sat while maintaining proper distancing and wearing masks.

The House also paid homage to brave soldiers of the country who fell in the line of duty.

The Speaker also expressed gratitude to Corona warriors, including representatives of doctors, nurses, Asha workers, cleaners and the police.

Expressing condolence, Mr Birla said Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee was the member of fourteenth and fifteenth Lok Sabhas.

He said Mukherjee was among the tallest leaders of today who respected the basic principles of Democracy and was a very successful politician. Mukherjee passed away on August 31 at the age of 84.

He had a long and successful political career and wrote several books, the Speaker said.

Mr Birla also condoled the demise of H Vasanthakumar, the sitting lawmaker from Kanyakumari constituency.

The two-time MP passed way on August 28 at the age of 70 years.

Mr Birla said Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj’s musical career spanned 75 years resulting in national and international fame, respect and numerous major awards and accolades.

He said Pt Jasraj was conferred with Padma Shri, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
