Kolkata, Nov 15 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Monday paid tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary separately.

” Homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary. We continue to be inspired by his fearless spirit and his undeterred effort towards empowerment of the tribal community,” Ms Banerjee said.

” I pay homage to the legendary freedom fighter, Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary,” said BJP leader Adhikari.

Born on this day in 1875, in Ulihatu village (Jharkhand), Birsa Munda, who lived only 25 years, spent his childhood in abject poverty in a
tribal Munda family when the British started penetrating the deep jungles of Central and Eastern India, disrupting tribals living in harmony with nature.

His life was full of gallant efforts to fight injustice and oppression, and represented a strong voice of resistance against
colonialism.
