Guwahati, Nov 15 : The mortal remains of Assam Rifles jawan Suman Swargiary who was killed in a militant ambush in Manipur’s Churachandpur district were consigned to flames with full state honours at his home town Thekerakuchi Kalibari village near the Barama area in Baksa district in lower Assam on Monday.

Swargiary has left behind his wife, his 2-year-old son and his mother. A guard of honour was given to the martyr by the jawans of Assam Rifles. He was cremated with full military honours, with many officers from his unit being present at the cremation site.

Earlier in the day, rich tributes were paid to him at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati where mortal remains of the soldier reached from Manipur.

He had joined the Indian Army in 2011. Notably, militants had earlier killed his father Kanak Swargiary in 2007. In the ambush, an Assam Rifles commanding officer, his wife, son and four other jawans were killed.

It may be mentioned here that on June 4, 2018, an Army convoy came under attack in Chandel district. The attack claimed the lives of 18 personnel of the Road Opening Patrol (ROP) of the 6 Dogra Regiment of the Army.
