New Delhi, Aug 29 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ should remain in focus, and said it should not be forgotten due to Covid-19, as he addressed the 80th edition of his Radio Program ‘Mann ki Baat.’

“In this Corona period, perhaps we have not been talking enough about Swachh Bharat. I believe we should not lose focus on this mission,” Modi said.

He mentioned Indore which has topped the Swachhata Ranking several times, and which is now a ‘water plus city’, and called for all cities to be made water plus.

‘Swachh Survekshan’ is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation in cities and towns across India launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission declared Indore as water plus city.

According to the criteria, dirty water should not go into any river or drain. Also, 30 per cent of the city’s sewer water has to be recycled and reused. Public toilets must be connected to sewer lines and must be cleaned.

“The more water plus cities we have, cleanliness will increase. Rivers will be clean and we will be fulfilling our duty as human beings,” he said.

Prime Minister was addressing the 80th edition of his radio program Mann Ki Baat.

Swachh Bharat Mission is one of the flagship programs of the government launched in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management.
