Modi to inaugurate, lay foundation stone of Rs 11,000 crore hydro projects

New Delhi, Dec 26 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of hydropower projects worth over Rs 11,000 crore in Himachal Pradesh on Monday aimed at utilizing the untapped hydropower potential of the region and preside over the second ground breaking ceremony of the Himachal Pradesh Global Investors’ Meet.

The investors’ meet is expected to give a boost to investment in the region through start of projects worth around Rs 28,000 crore.

During his visit to Mandi, in the state, Modi will lay foundation stone of Renukaji Dam project which has been possible by bringing together six states under the vision of cooperative federalism.

Pending for around three decades, the project brings together the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi. The 40 MW project will be built at a cost of around Rs 7000 crore and will benefit Delhi which will be able to receive around 500 million cubic metre water supply per year.

The laying of the foundation stone of the 210 MW Luhri Stage 1 Hydro Power Project, to be built at a cost of over Rs 1800 crore, will be an important step towards generation of over 750 million units of electricity per year. The modern and dependable grid support will prove beneficial to surrounding states of the region as well.

Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project, which will be the first such project of Hamirpur district. The 66 MW project will be built at a cost of over Rs 680 crore and lead to generation of over 300 million units of electricity per year.

Besides these, Modi will inaugurate the Sawra-Kuddu Hydro Power Project, a 111 MW work built at a cost of around Rs 2080 crore which will lead to generation of over 380 million units of electricity per year and help the state earn revenue worth over Rs 120 crore annually.
