Municipal Council, CCP polls to be held in Goa on March 20

Panaji, Feb 22 : The State Election Commission (SEC) in Goa on Monday announced elections for 11 Municipal Councils and Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) to be held on March 20, 2021.

Addressing a press conference in the city, State Election Commissioner C R Garg said said Model Code of Conduct (MCC) had been made operational in the state from February 22, 2022, and would be limited to the areas where polls would take place.

The elections would be held between 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs for the municipal councils. Those diagnosed with Covid 19 infections would be allowed to vote between 1600 hrs to 1700 hrs.

Mr Garg said the by-election for Zilla Panchayat constituency of Navelim in South Goa, by-election for a ward of Sankhalim Municipal Council and by-elections for 22 wards of different village panchayats would also be held on March 20 along with municipal polls.

The nominations for the polls would be accepted between February 25 to March 4, 2021 and scrutiny of the applications would take place March 6, 2021.

The counting of votes would be take place on March 22, 2021.

The election would be held on March 20 and counting on March 22.

The total number of eligible voters for the polls were 3,10,995.
