Nettaru Case: Karnataka police to attach properties of accused

Mangaluru, Aug 11 : Hinting at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s model of governance, Karnataka Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar said that they will seize properties of the three assailants, who had hacked to death BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru in Dakshina Kannada’s Bellare weeks ago.

“It was a planned murder. The assailants escaped from the scene after committing the crime. We are trying to hunt them down. We will serve a warrant against the absconders, seize their properties and initiate various other actions,” the top police officer told reporters here on Wednesday.

As many as seven people have been arrested in Nettrau murder case, Alok Kumar said. The last arrest was made on Tuesday, however three main assailants who have been identified are yet to be apprehended, he added.

Alok Kumar also said those who gave logistical support to the assailants would not be spared. Strict action will be taken against them, he said.

The officer said he had a review meeting on Wednesday with Mangaluru officials and other surrounding districts with regard to the joint operation of the police and National Investigation Agency to bring to book the main assailants.

The officials reviewed law and order in Dakshina Kannada district where prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code are still in force.

During the meeting, he also reviewed the law and order situation in Mangaluru, where prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) are still in force.

On July 26 night, Praveen was brutally murdered near his chicken shop. Following which, tension prevailed in the district and triggered anger among BJP workers against the state government’s alleged failure to protect Hindu activists.

Though the police suspect the assailants have People’s Front of India (PFI) and SDPI (Social Democratic Party of India) connections, they are yet to confirm it. However, one of the assailant’s wife told the media that her husband was connected with PFI.
