Nitish waiting for consent of BJP for all party meeting on caste census

Patna, Jan 3 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that he was waiting for consent

of BJP to convene all party meeting on caste census, even though all other parties had already given their green signals to participate in the meeting.

Kumar, after Janata Darbar organised at CM secretariat, told media persons here that his government was prepared to hold all party meeting on caste census in Bihar but he was waiting for the consent of


All other parties had already expressed their willingness to participate in all party meeting on the

issue, he added.

“Once BJP confirms its participation in all party meeting, date would be announced soon after,”

Chief Minister said adding that he was optimistic for positive response from BJP to attend all party meeting.

He did not think there would be a situation of dissent or absence of unanimity over the issue,

Kumar felt.

The chief minister said that consent of all party was required to hold all party meeting. It

appeared that leaders of BJP were discussing among themselves for a final decision on the


Kumar said that he had recently talked to state level BJP leaders on the issue. His government

was prepared for caste census.

As it is, all party delegation led by Chief Minister Kumar had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi

on August 23 last year and requested him for reconsideration of the decision of the Centre not to conduct caste census. Despite request made to PM by all party delegation, stand of the Centre on caste census did not change, prompting Chief Minister Kumar to go for caste census in Bihar at its

own expenses.

All parties including main opposition RJD are in favour of caste census. Leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav had demanded from Chief Minister Kumar for caste census in Bihar, using resources of state government.
