New Delhi, Oct 18 : Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said there is no shortage of medical oxygen in the country and looking at the increase in demand of the same due to the COVID pandemic, the government is prepared to step up its production capacity.
He said at present, the production capacity of medical oxygen in the country was 6,400 metric tonnes a day and if the demand of the same increased due to COVID-19, then the government was all prepared to step up its production capacity.
Dr Vardhan said the empowered group constituted by the MHA was monitoring the demand of medical oxygen across the nation.
Apart from this, the Health Ministry is also digitally connected with the nodal officers appointed for monitoring the supply and demand of the medical oxygen and also in touch with the Chief Secretaries and Mission Directors across states for the purpose.
The Union Minister informed that 1,02,400 medical oxygen cylinders have been supplied to the states and Union Territories.
He further said that price of liquid medical oxygen has been determined by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority and guidelines have also been issued on proper use of the same in the COVID-19 management.
