Srinagar, Dec 26 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday emphasized that certain public issues cannot be effectively addressed under the current Union Territory (UT) status.
“We are reaching out to the people to address their concerns, but there are certain issues that cannot be resolved immediately under the UT status,” Omar told reporters in Srinagar.
“Some issues are inherently tied to the UT status, and to address them adequately, we need to get back statehood from the Centre,” he added.
The CM said he was actively listening to the grievances of the people and providing assurances, as this government has been elected by them. We will continue to engage with the public and address their concerns.
Addressing the issue of unscheduled power cuts, the Chief Minister acknowledged the challenges posed by the severe cold and ongoing dry weather in the valley. “The valley is facing extreme cold conditions with persistent dry weather. I pray to the Almighty for snowfall to help alleviate these tough conditions,” he remarked.
Regarding the unscheduled power cuts, Omar said “the valley is facing extreme cold conditions with dry weather persisting presently .. I pray to the Almighty that the snowfall should happen to overcome these tough weather conditions”.
He said the unscheduled power cuts take place only when more load is being felt on the system.
Omar said as more smart metering will be installed, the less unscheduled power cuts will be there.
“I understand we could take Jammu and Kashmir to a place where there would be 100 percent metering so that the electricity could be available for 24 hours for the people”, the Chief Minister said.
He said the administration is hoping there should be less power cuts and the water supply remain running in the valley without any interruption during the winter.
Regarding the Srinagar-Delhi rail connection, Omar said “we also want that the process should complete as soon as possible so that the Kashmir valley could be connected by Rail for travellers.
