Online classes for school students of tribal communities begin in Kerala district

Wayanad, Jul 11 : The online classes for the school students belonging to tribal communities in this district got underway in their own tribal-friendly dialects with the official launch held on Friday.
The tribal students have been finding it difficult to rope into the online classes for two reasons – lack of TV sets or other tools like smart phones to connect with the channel and the difficulty in understanding as the medium of instruction of e-learning was in vernacular Malayalam.
But now the content in Malayalam, as transmitted through the Government-run educational channel Kite-Victer, have since been translated into tribal dialects with the help of mentors, selected and trained from among the tribal communities, and are getting readied for being aired.
E-learning classes in the tribal dialects will benefit thousands of tribal students in this district, having the largest tribal population in the state. If found beneficial, similar online classes in tribal-friendly dialects would also be aired for the benefit of tribal students in other districts like Malappuram, Palakkad and Idukki where tribal hamlets exist, sources said.
