Owners detained after blaze kills four

Lucknow, Sep 5 : The owners of Levana Suites and its General Manager were detained after a fire in the hotel on Monday left four persons dead and eight others ill, an officer said here.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Piyush Mordia said: “The owners of the hotel, Rahul Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal, along with General Manager Sagar Shrivastava are being questioned by the police.”

He said 12 persons were taken to the Civil Hospital, where four people were declared brought dead. Seven were still admitted.

Those dead were identified as Gurnur Singh (28), Saiba Kaul (26), Shravika Sant (18) and Bobby alias Aman Ghazi (22).

The hotel had 30 rooms over two floors and 18 of them were occupied when the tragedy took place.

The officer said it seems that the fire broke out on the first floor.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a high-level probe into the incident.

Adityanath has directed the Commissioner of Lucknow Division and the Police Commissioner of Lucknow to jointly probe the cause of the blaze.

Police sources said the fire quickly engulfed the other floors of the hotel resulting in thick layers of smoke.
