Oxygen News Update : Centre importing 20 cryogenic tankers of 10 MT & 20 MT capacity for states

New Delhi, Apr 27 : In view of shortage of tankers for transportation of Liquid Medical Oxygen(LMO) in the country, the Centre has been importing 20 cryogenic tankers of 10 MT and 20 MT capacity which will be given to states.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, in consultation with Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the overall guidance of the Empowered Group-II (EG-II) have mapped the allocation of these containers to various states.

Under this plan, out of 10 Cryogenic containers arrived at Panagarh port,Madhya Pardesh will get two containers of 20 MT and Uttar Pradesh will get two each of 20 MT and 10 MT, Rajasthan will get four tankers of 10 MT.

Similarly, out of six containers of 10 MT which will be reaching at Jammnagar today, Delhi will get three, Gujarat will get two and one will be sent to UP while out of four containers of 20 MT arriving at Mundra port on April 30, two each will be given to Gujarat and Delhi.

Assuring the people, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday said that there has been no scarcity of the medical oxygen in the country but the main issue was the shortage of cryogenic tankers to transport this life saving commodity from manufacturing plants to various hospitals in the country.

Medical Oxygen is produced in the liquid form, cooled at around minus 180 degree, known as cryogenic temperature. For transportation of this liquid form of Oxygen, these Cryogenic tankers are used.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, the Indian Air Force’s transport aircraft C-17 has arrived in transporting more cryogenic tankers from Dubai, the MHA said on Tuesday.
